Promotion of a positive mood
Family pets and pets in general
provide certain components of attachment that contribute to emotional and
social well-being. Events in a pet’s life can brighten their owner’s mood or
send them into a dramatic downfall of emotions. The presence of a pet can sway
a person’s psychological and sociological state. Scientists have observed a
type of attachment theory in which, “serves the biological function of
protection as well as security” (Sable 334). Along with the security pets
present, they also, “increase feelings of happiness and self-worth and reduce
feelings of loneliness and isolation on a daily basis” (Sable 334). Pets can
ease stress as well as fulfill many of the social needs of humans. In other
words, “the social support a pet provides can make a person feel more relaxed
and decreases stress” (Casciotti). Pets also have the ability to keep you
motivated. Whatever that task may be, the demand of pets is so high that almost
anything can be manageably done. If a person is stressed or depressed, pets may
be the precursor to a happier, healthier lifestyle.
